ACA Explanation & Form 8962

If you receive the following error message, it indicates that the IRS has a US Tax Form 1095-A for you on record. Because of this, you are required to fill out Form 8962.

The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return. Error Code: F8962-070. - the IRS

Here’s the solution

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. On the left sidebar, click the section for "US Income and Assets” to reveal the sub-menu. Click “US Tax Forms” in the sub-menu.
  3. Check the checkbox for “Form 1095-A” and click “Save”.
  4. Upload your Form 1095-A for all applicable years.

Notes

  • If you are unsure if you have Form 1095-A, you can check your account status at Healthcare.gov.
  • Unfortunately, we can’t e-file your return until you add Form 1095-A.
  • If you don’t have this form, you’ll have to paper mail your return.
