What is Form 843 and Does MyExpatTaxes Support It?

At MyExpatTaxes, we typically don’t file Form 843 since it’s meant for specific refund claims. However, if you need it, we can assist you with filling it out.

What is Form 843?

Form 843 (Claim for Refund and Request for Abatement) is an IRS form that lets you request a refund or reduction of certain taxes, penalties, interest, or fees. While it’s not something most taxpayers need, we’re here to guide you if it applies to your situation.

Think of Form 843 as a way to “ask the IRS for a break.” You can use it to:

  • Request the IRS to remove penalties or interest
  • Ask for a refund of certain non-income taxes or fees (for example, withheld Social Security tax)

Important: This form is not used for regular income tax refunds. Those are always handled through your regular tax return.

What You Need to Know

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’d like our support with Form 843:

  • You’ll need to be on our Premium Plan.
  • Our Tax Professionals will reach out to you for the details needed.
  • There’s an additional fee of $119, and we’ll issue a custom invoice for that service.
