A Dependent SSN in the return must not be the same as the Primary or Spouse SSN on another return where 'PrimaryClaimAsDependentInd' or 'SpouseClaimAsDependentInd' is not checked.

Error Code: IND-517-01

Via the IRS

This error message indicates that you (or your spouse) have already been claimed as a dependent on another tax return.

How to Resolve this:

  1. Please confirm that your last name and social security number are exactly as stated on your social security card. (Form 1040 will show your name and social security number as entered)
  2. If this information is correct, go to Dependent Status and select that you were claimed on another US taxpayer's return, as shown below:

  1. If you (or your spouse) were incorrectly claimed as a dependent on another tax return, you must mail your return by paper (the classic postal ‘snail mail’).
  2. You may also want to contact the IRS directly to ensure this does not happen again on future tax returns.

The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return.

Error Code: F8962-070

Via the IRS

This error message indicates that the IRS has a US Tax Form 1095-A for you on record.
Because of this, you are required to fill out Form 8962.

How to Resolve this:

  1. Please add your US Tax Form to US Tax Documents
  2. If you are unsure if you have this form, you can check your account status at Healthcare.gov.

Unfortunately, we cannot E-file your return until you add Form 1095-A.

If you do not have this form, you must paper mail your return.

1.4.4.3 Address Format
Street Address Line 1 'AddressLine1Txt' cannot contain more than 35 characters, abbreviation of lengthy address information may be required to provide all pertinent information.
Note: MeF will reject returns that contain address information on the Street Address Line 2 field 'AddressLine2Txt'. Individual Returns will reject business rule IND-055-02. Business Returns will reject with business rule R0000-197-01.

Via the IRS restrictions, page 18

Unfortunately, for us to be able to E-file tax returns, we have to comply with this rule.

IRS regulation does not allow more than 35 characters in addresses.
And we think this is ridiculous.
But it is a requirement for E-filing.

Is there ANY way around this?

Some other online tax preparation applications that allow you to enter longer addresses will actually cut off your address after the 35 character limit, or force you to paper mail your return ('snail mail'? Gross!)
This can result in misplaced mailing from the IRS, lost notices, and even lost refunds!

At MyExpatTaxes, we try to be as transparent as possible about this.

We want to make sure your return is filed as accurately and safely as possible!
